Gas bill discrepancies being worked out

Some Peachtree City residents may have been overbilled by Peachtree Natural Gas last summer, according to a spokesperson for Peachtree City.

The city is working with PNG and the Georgia Public Service Commission to address the potential problem. PNG has agreed to delay turning over outstanding accounts to collections if there are written complaints under investigation.

The unwarranted charges include natural gas used in June, July and August of 1999 and interstate pipeline fees for customers who signed up for the $.0375 per therm fixed rate. During those months, Peachtree Natural and Coweta Fayette EMC offered all customers free gas.

Based upon the preferred provider agreement between Peachtree City and PNG, the fixed rate included interstate pipeline fees.

Residents who believe they were billed in error should contact PNG in writing at the following address: P.O. Box 740554, Atlanta, Ga., 30374, Attn: Customer Service.

A copy of the Public Service Commission's complaint form is available at city hall. The PSC recommends forwarding copies of cancelled checks, billing statements and other documents to support complaints.

The PSC recommends forwarding the complaints to its offices at the following address: 47 Trinity Ave., S.W., Atlanta, Ga., 30334.

The city is trying to provide documentation for all city residents regarding the terms of the contract and the free gas offer for June, July and August.
