Not content to just sing in their church choir, Leslie Rummel and Adina Lavery felt the call of the Lord to spread His name in other places through song.

They travel all over Fayette and Coweta counties and call their Christian ministry “Wings.”

Appearing at church gatherings, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, the duo has a repertoire of 35 selections that are a combination of spiritual and traditional songs. Through these 30 minutes of songs they share God's love with everyone in the various venues and bring the joy of Jesus Christ to loving people, lonely people, those who have lost their faith, those who want their faith strengthened and people who just long for fellowship.

“There is such a incredible need out there for this kind of ministry,” said Rummel, “that we plan to continue because God has blessed us so greatly and called us to do this.

“Adina and I know that He wants us out there spreading the good news through song,” she added.

Rummel was born in Hialeah, Fla. and reared in Eugene, Ore. A lady living across the street was an inspiration to her and was instrumental in leading her to the church. She is the alto sound in the duo.

Lavery was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. and also lived in Chicago. She has always been in church and credits her dad with being her greatest inspiration. Lavery is the soprano voice you hear.

This past year they have visited over 25 different locations and are always invited to return. They have performed at the Sharpsburg Festival, Christian City and the retirement communities in Fayette and Coweta counties.

While these dedicated ladies are glad to appear at no charge to make Christ known through song, outside donations to help offset expenses will be gratefully accepted.

Wings has just purchased a new sound system and looks forward to recording a tape so its musical mission of sharing Christ through song can be spread even farther.

The ladies always end their performances with the same song, “Build A Bridge,” which perfectly states their mission: “There was a gulf that separated us from the perfect heart of God, But with the gift of His own Son, God made the way for us to cross. Now because we know the way, we can't be silent for one more day. Build a bridge, reaching out the hand of Christ. Join together, all as one, side by side. We will tell all the world that in Jesus Christ alone, there is hope. Join together, reaching out, build a bridge.” (Dennis and Nan Allen 1996)

A call to Rummel at 770-304-0981 or Lavery at 770-304-0801 will bring them to your church or nursing home. Their web site is at www.angelfire.com/ga/resurrectionlutheran/wings.htm.
