City clarifies water rules and use of wells

The 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. odd-even watering ban in Peachtree City doesn't apply to businesses and individuals who are pulling their water from a private well, city council has decided.

Councilwoman Carol Fritz suggested that those pulling from private wells are still using waters owned by the public. She said private well users should be subject to the water ban also.

“I just think we need to be prudent,” Fritz said. “We don't know how long the drought will last.”

But landowners, in theory, own the rights to their property all the way to “the core of the earth,” said Mayor Bob Lenox.

Councilman Robert Brooks said the council should reconsider the idea if private well watering becomes a problem.

“I just have a real problem with calling these private streams,” Fritz said.
