The search is on for the county's best ice cream

Main Street Newnan is now taking applications for this year's annual Ice Cream Festival.

Civic clubs, churches, schools and other non-profit organizations will be churning out their favorite recipes of homemade ice cream to raise funds for their activities.

Last year, 17 community organizations participated and this year, Main Street looks for it to be bigger and better.

The top three flavors will be chosen by a panel of judges and cash prizes will be awarded. First place receives $100, while second best receives $50 and third place is awarded $25.

The competing teams also will offer their homemade ice cream for sale at $1 a scoop and there will be a great variety of flavors to try.

The event takes place during the annual Festival Days Labor Day weekend at Newnan's historic Court Square.

For information and to receive an application, phone the Main Street office at 770-254-3703.
