Signing bonus helps fill local teaching slots

Fayette County schools have most of their teaching positions filled for the 2000-2001 school year, according to Superintendent John DeCotis.

“We're in pretty good shape as compared to past years,” he told the Board of Education Monday night. “Our most difficult areas have been filled.”

A $1,000 signing bonus was approved in the spring for hiring teachers in critical areas that included special education, math and science. The 20 bonuses were a one-time-only incentive to attract good teachers to the county for hard-to-fill slots.
