In
the Tuesday, Aug. 8 runoff, voters will pick
between two candidates to represent Fayette
County in the state senate.
Incumbent
Rick Price and challenger Mitch Seabaugh were the
top two vote getters in the primary. Price, 51, a
Fayette County resident, is seeking a third term
as the state senator for District 28. Seabaugh, a
Coweta County resident, is making a second bid
for the seat and has served in the Republican
Party in a variety of duties.
Price
took 44.5 percent of the votes in the primary
while Seabaugh got 23 percent of the tally.
Both
candidates have indicated that their major
differences are on the issue of Price's voting
record.
Price
said he wants voters to look at his voting record
and judge him themselves. But Seabaugh claims
that voting record doesn't reflect the principles
of the Republican Party.
The
voters can look at my record and see for
themselves that I am a conservative, Price
said. It's easy to talk the talk. I can
prove that I also walk the walk.
Price
has unveiled a proposal to enact a freeze on
property taxes by holding down the reassessments
of homes. He also stated that his experience as a
county commissioner provides him with insight on
local issues.
Seabaugh
said he supports local control, smaller
government and lower taxes. He also said he wants
to answer each constituent's phone call, e-mail
and fax.
We
need leadership that will consistently reflect
the interests of the people of this district,
leadership that puts the people first and self
last, Seabaugh said.
Seabaugh
added that he hopes he will be judged on his
voting record if he is elected.
My
votes will represent the values of the people of
this district, Seabaugh said.
