Newnan mayor gets tech position

Gov. Roy Barnes swore in the members of the Georgia Technology Authority earlier this week at the state Capitol.

One of the authority members is Newnan Mayor Keith Brady.

The authority was created by the Georgia Technology Authority Act, which was proposed by Barnes and enacted by the General Assembly this year. It will be responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement and management of state government's telephone, Internet and computer systems.

The authority has 12 members. Seven are appointed by the governor and two each by the lieutenant governor and speaker of the House. There is also an ex-officio member appointed by the chief justice who has not yet been named.

Other appointments made by Barnes include:

Lisa M. Beale, 34, Atlanta - chief strategic officer, RealEstate.com;

Thomas A. Fanning, 43, Atlanta - chief financial officer, Georgia Power Co.;

Wayne H. Lazarus, 56, Atlanta - partner, Stokes, Lazarus & Carmichael;

James D. Lester III, 56, Columbus - senior vice president, Information Technology AFLAC Inc.;

Joshua Levine, 46, Atlanta - chief technology officer, E*TRADE;

Jacinta C. Miller, 41, Columbus - director of testing services, Total System Services Inc.;

Sam Zamarippa, 47, Atlanta - chief marketing officer, HispanBiz.com.

Appointment made by Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor:

Brent Layton, 32, Atlanta - president, Layton & Associates.

Appointments made by House Speaker Tom Murphy:

Dean Alford, 47, Conyers - president and CEO, Allied Utility Network;

Connell Stafford, 52, Atlanta - vice president corporate affairs, The Coca-Cola Company.
