Local teen killed after car hits tree

Speeding was a factor in a one-car accident that claimed the life of a Peachtree City teen on Kedron Drive Tuesday night, police said.

Kevin Collazuol, 18, died in the wreck after his car left the road and struck a tree, said Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department. Will Morris, 18, also of Peachtree City, was a passenger in the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse that Collazuol was driving.

There is no indication that alcohol was involved in the accident, DuPree said, adding that police took a blood test on the driver, which is standard police procedure in all fatal auto accidents.

This was Peachtree City's first fatal crash of the year, DuPree confirmed. The accident is still under investigation, he added.

Collazuol was attempting to negotiate a curve near the Spooner Ridge subdivision when his vehicle crossed over the center line, DuPree said. A head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle was avoided when both drivers swerved, he added.

That's when Collazuol lost control of the vehicle as he overcompensated, causing the car to leave the roadway, jump the curb and strike the tree.

Both victims were flown by medical helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center, DuPree said.
