Several
new awards were announced during a recent
luncheon meeting of the National Society of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, Augustin
Clayton Chapter.
It
was held at the home of Second Vice Regent, Betty
Harrah.
The
chapter was chartered 27 years ago in Jonesboro
and has 103 members, most of whom live in
Fayette, Clayton and Henry counties.
Regent
Joyce Patton said that the chapter was chosen as
first in the nation last year and first in
Georgia this year for its accomplishments in both
new members and number of activities it
participated in.
The
chapter gives flags to schools and parks; sends
money to the veterans hospital; sends clothes and
money to DAR-supported schools; observes History
Month, Georgia Day and Flag Day by recognizing
students with Good Citizen medals and recognizing
outstanding history teachers; plants trees in
honor of a Georgian, and marks the graves of
Revolutionary soldiers.
It
holds luncheon meetings monthly and night
meetings quarterly. For information phone Joyce
Patton at 770-471-6647.
