Commission eyes replacing staff head at morning meeting

Recruitment of a new county administrator will be on the agenda as Fayette County commissioners meet tomorrow.

Commissioners last week fired 15-year Administrator Billy Beckett citing “philosophical differences.”

The group will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday instead of its usual meeting time of 7 p.m.

Commissioners moved the meeting up so they can get out of town Thursday afternoon for a National Association of Counties conference.

Discussion of the city of Fayetteville's proposed annexation of 450 acres at Ga. Highway 54 and Lester Road also will be on the agenda.

Under state law, cities must inform counties and get their input before annexing property.

Commissioners also will discuss appointments to the Library Board and the McIntosh Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Substance Abuse Board.
