Adopt-a-Park gets enthusiastic repsonse

The staff at the Peachtree City Recreation Department is thrilled over the response received since the “Adopt-A-Park” Program began in April.

Since its inception six (6) parks or tot lots have been adopted. Several residents, who collectively call themselves “Friends,” have grouped together to adopt Blue Smoke/ Windalier tot lot because they especially enjoy the use of it and visit it regularly.

Besides the Peachtree City Boat Docks (Battery Way) being kept free of trash and debris, the sand boxes in the playground area are raked and smoothed out from time to time, thanks to Ivy Green Lawn Service, Inc.

The owner of Ivy Green, who lives near the park, also had some landscaping and planting done to spruce up the area, which his company has adopted.

Cub Scout Pack 211 at First Presbyterian Church adopted Picnic Park. This group coordinates a monthly clean up along with a Cub Scout picnic and meeting.

Passersby may have noticed the newly painted playground tunnels at Pebblepocket Park. The Net Homeschoolers provided painters and the Peachtree City Recreation Department donated paint and supplies to revamp the playground area.

With some parental assistance, the children painted the playground tunnels bright blue and orange. The children had fun adding their detailed personal touches to the project. The group has now adopted the park for regular cleanup.

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 254 just recently adopted Rockspray Pond.

Others who wish to remain anonymous have adopted Braelinn Recreation Complex.

These people are making a significant difference in Peachtree City's public parks. In recognition of their contribution, the city displays an Adopt -A-Park sign at the parks with the names of these individuals, organizations and businesses for their hard work and contribution to help keep parks looking their best.

There are still several parks/tot lots or areas in larger parks available for adoption. Now is the time when volunteers are needed due to the abundance of activity in parks during the upcoming months. You can make a difference as well.

For more information on joining the Adopt-A-Park program, please call the Recreation Administration Office any weekday from 8 am-5pm at 770-631-2542.
