Historical Society seeks Fayette church photographs

Does your church have a photo of its congregation or building in the 1880s or early 1900s?

Maybe your family has a photo of a baptismal service, a dinner on the grounds or a camp meeting.

The Fayette County Historical Society is searching for vintage photos of churches and places of worship in Fayette county from that period. The society wants to include copies of the oldest photos in its 2001 calendar, “19th and Early 20th Century Places of Worship in Fayette County.”

The calendar is the third in an annual series of calendars of historic Fayette photos. The first featured early schools, and the second featured industries.

If your church or family has a photo that is more than 50 years old that shows a church building or worship service in the county, the Historical Society would like to scan the photo for its archives and for consideration for the calendar. Scanning takes only a few minutes and does not harm the photo.

The society's research library/museum at 195 Lee St., Fayetteville, will be open and someone available to scan Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For information phone 770-716-6020.
