Candidate reports sign theft

Oh where, oh where have my campaign signs gone? Oh where, oh where can they be?

That's what Don Apking, candidate for Fayette County Board of Education Post 2 would like to know.

Apking said Monday that about 125 signs have disappeared from around the county, mostly those erected among clusters of candidates posters. “About 80 percent of my signs are gone,” Apking said.

In addition to the cardboard advertisements, Apking also had the magnetic sign attached to his car taken about four weeks ago.

Apking said he has reported the incidents to Steve Harris, state court solicitor. The estimated value of the stolen signs is about $3 apiece, plus $50 for the magnetic signs.

Apking admitted that sign theft happens every election, but finds it aggravating that he's the target this time around.

His signs just went up in Peachtree City this weekend and none have been noticed missing yet. Today, he will post them in Tyrone, the first day the town allows political advertising.
