A 14-year-old juvenile, already a suspect in nine golf cart thefts earlier this month, was caught in the act of stealing another golf cart Monday evening, police said.

Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department said Cpl. Chris Brown spotted the youth on the cart in the Timber Walk area after 9 p.m. The youth originally tried to drive away on the golf cart before abandoning it and trying to get away on foot, DuPree said.

Officers later spotted the 14-year-old, who lives in Peachtree City, and made the arrest without a confrontation, DuPree added.

Earlier this month, police filed a juvenile complaint against the youth after he left one of the nine stolen carts at the scene of an automobile that was entered illegally, DuPree said.

Officers were on the lookout for the suspect Monday night before he was spotted on the stolen cart, DuPree added.

Because of the confidentiality involving juvenile cases, officials could not release information as to whether the youth has been penalized, warned or cleared by the juvenile court system for the original series of golf cart thefts.
