It's going to be a busy summer on the byways of Coweta County. County Commission Chairman Vernon Hunter met with Georgia Department of Transportation officials and received commitments on a number of road projects in Coweta County. The projects include: A contract adjustment for improvements at the intersection of North Airport Road and U.S. Highway 29. The contract adjustment will fulfill a DOT commitment to provide participation totaling $200,000 on this project. A DOT county contract for paving on Norton Road. Inclusion of the remaining portion of Old Corinth Road in the next LARP program. A portion of Old Corinth had already been approved for paving by DOT. Approximately $400,000 in additional assistance under the LARP program for paving of county roads. A commitment to preliminary plans and estimates on paving of Jim Carmichael Road, Daniel Road and North Alexander Creek Road. Pine Road improvements at the new fairgrounds project. Coweta County has agreed to prepare plans for a new alignment of the intersection of Orr Road, Poplar Road and Ga. Highway 16 east. Once those plans are completed, they will be turned over to DOT for estimates. DOT has agreed to provide assistance with the needed intersection improvements as well as with the costs involved with the installation of a traffic signal. In a status report on intersection improvement plans for Amlajack Boulevard at Ga. Highway 34 east and Herring Road at Hwy. 34 east, Hunter noted that plans on both projects are currently at the DOT district office in Thomaston for estimates. Once the estimates are completed the paperwork will go to DOT in Atlanta to determine the degree of participation by DOT in those projects.
