Private wells are not covered by restrictions

Residents drawing water from wells are not under the EPD watering ban.

That's the latest word from the state after a confusing press release late week. Coweta County Administrator Theron Gay told the county commissioners last week the ban did apply to wells.

But later in the week, Gay recanted the statement and said the ban does not apply to wells.

The EPD does not have a way to monitor well usage, so the ban would be tough to enforce.

The EPD made the ban stricter this week by telling residents in the Atlanta region that outdoor watering could only occur on an odd-even basis, based on your home's address.

Residents are still encouraged to use the minimum amount of water until the drought eases.
