A cozy picnic under the stars

Amphitheater patrons bring their own culinary delights to the show

Take a wicker basket or cooler, fill with assorted finger foods and beverages and head over to the Frederick J. Brown Amphitheater in Peachtree City for a magical musical evening.

The summer concert season is underway and a night of entertainment at the “Fred” wouldn't be complete without a little noshing and sipping under the stars.

A visit to the amphitheater on the weekend of the Righteous Brothers concert revealed a wide range of summer spreads from deli platters and hors d'oeuvres to potato chips and barbecue.

The smell of charcoal starts in the parking lot, where some concertgoers choose to fire up some choice beef before the show. Bart Beasley and his party of friends from Spalding County feasted on cold shrimp, cheese and grilled shish-kebabs. Steve and Lynne Fraas of Peachtree City entertained Gene and Melaine Hardwick and Keith and Sherry Duncan of Barnesville in the gold section with a delicious assortment of nibbles and wine.

Beside them, “theme enthusiasts” Dave and J.B. Page, Alan and Garbo Massey and Larry and Raymonda Parris celebrated the evening's duo with a “Brothers All” table. “Tonight the men planned everything,” J.B. said. Crusty sandwiches and light side dishes provided tasty pre-concert fare.

Heading for higher ground and a grassy picnic were David and Tracy Bergmann and Tracy's mother Kit Brown, visiting from South Carolina. Fried chicken, pasta salad and fruit were the goodies tucked into their picnic basket.

Whether you choose to prepare your own take-along food or pick up some fast eats on the way, the ambience of eating al fresco under a starry sky can't be duplicated.
