Local program featured in TV on aging

Regions Bank's Heritage Club has teamed up with the local television program “Aging in Georgia.”

The show is currently aired only on Channel 10-WGET in Newnan. The 30-minute show airs Monday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Heritage Club offers benefits and social activities bank account holders who are 50 and older.

“Aging in Georgia” is hosted by two local women, Tamela Ragsdale, RN, OCN, and Gina Weathersby. According to the duo, the mission of the program is to “enhance the quality of life for older adults by revealing the options that are available and to offer education which will equip them with the answers they need in order to make well thought out, educated choices and decisions.”

Nancy Price, marketing director and Heritage Club coordinator for Regions Bank, made her television debut last week on the show. During her first appearance, which aired the week of May 15, Price discussed the activities and benefits of the Heritage Club.

Price remarked that she was “very excited about the opportunity to appear on the show and reach out to another segment of the market to inform them about our Heritage Club account. Not only does Heritage Club offer an array of banking benefits, but the social advantages exceed any others offered in this market.”

The June 22 Heritage Club luncheon also will be featured on “Aging in Georgia.” The luncheon is a regular bi-monthly benefit offered by the Club to its members. Various speakers, ranging from comedians to musical treats to educational speakers, entertain the bank's prime timers during the luncheon.

The June luncheon will feature humorist Joe Mason. In addition to being touted as a humorist, he also is a “troubadour, player of piano and teller of tales,” said Price. Mason is a former columnist for the Decatur News Era and has published two collections, the latest entitled “Mason Jars: Confessions of an Only Child.”

In addition to luncheons and banking benefits, Heritage Club members can take advantage of a variety of trips and events. Some of the upcoming events include tours of Ireland and Asia, a Mississippi riverboat cruise, a four-day trip to New Orleans and a seven-day cruise aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines in December. Upcoming day trips include the Braves, Cabaret at the Fox and Tony Bennett at Chastain Park.

“Aging in Georgia” discusses a different topic of interest for older adults each week. Program representatives have visited nursing homes, assisted living communities, physicians' offices and other related businesses on air. Guest speakers with expertise in areas of interest to seniors and care givers periodically appear on the show.

Some of the upcoming speakers and topics will include a talk with staff from Dogwood Forest Assisted Living and Alzheimer's Center in Fayetteville, a discussion by Fayette Community Hospital staff regarding what to expect from a discharge planner and a visit from state Rep. Lynn Westmoreland. Westmoreland will be giving an update on legislation affecting older adults.
