Ah, summer... and the living is easy.

But the gas prices are going up with the temperature.

As a weekly service, The Citizen introduces the Fayette Gas Gauge, which checks prices throughout the county. The gauge looks for the lowest price on self-service unleaded regular gas.

If you discover a lower price than those we've listed, tell us by e-mail at jthompson@TheCitizenNews.com.

AAA Auto Club South reported in May that prices were starting to stabilize, but are still up dramatically. This May, the price for self-serve regular unleaded averaged $1.35. But last year, the price was 96.9 cents a gallon. For the last five years, prices have fluctuated from a low of 89.9 cents in 1998 to $1.35 this year.

June is off to a fast start, with prices beginning to nudge up a bit.
