Collins seeks end to
estate tax The U.S.
House Ways and Means Committee has voted to
repeal the estate tax, commonly known as the
death tax, said Fayette's Rep. Mac Collins.
Collins said he
voted for the repeal, citing statistics showing
that only one-third of family businesses make it
to the second generation, and less than half of
those make it to the third generation. The estate
tax is a major cause, he said.
Three Democrats
joined all Republicans on the committee in
approving the bill, HR 8, 24-11. The bill is
expected to be considered by the House of
Representatives as early as the week of June 5.
