For those of you that have ever been part of a new mission church start will understand the absolute importance of the words We have land. Praise be the Good Lord! You haven't lived until you've driven up to the American Legion Log Cabin in Fayetteville on a cold or a hot Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and unlocked the Log Cabin, and immediately turned on the air conditioner or the heat. You then proceed to unlock several storage doors and then plug in and turn on all the individually wired ceiling fans for the weekly worship service. Then the fun really begins as you begin to set up the PA set, which involves running numerous microphone chords and speaker wires, music stands and then you roll out the pulpit and set up numerous chairs. If you haven't laughed or worked your self to death by now, you get to set up the nursery, the coffee and donuts, several tables for Sunday School. You then go outside and roll the portable sign out to the sidewalk and then hang another sign on the building, which, just hours later, you get to take down again so someone else can rent the building. You then begin to unload the church van of all the boxes of literature you had to take home from the week before because there is a Fayetteville American Legion Log Cabin pet rat that loves to chew on the word and on our church song folders and anything else paper. In fact this very week I had a good friend say to me, Knox, why do you always carry so much junk around in your church van? As if loading it up and unloading it twice on Sunday wasn't enough, I should probably unload it when I get home Sunday afternoon so I could load it all up again for Sunday, right? Well, all that is going to change shortly, thanks be to God, and I say that very reverently. We have purchased a little over 15 acres just 13 miles south of Fayetteville on Ga. Highway 85 south, about a mile south of the Senoia exit just after you cross Highway 16. The Southern Baptists have some beautiful modular chapel units that are constructed for the purpose of new church starts. These very nice modular units are for use until you can get your sanctuary built. They have a worship center, nursery, kitchen, restrooms and even office space. They will seat 114 nicely. As time goes on we will have a barn raising and will be inviting you to bring your hammer and saw and help another church get started like it used to be done in the good old days. Never take your church building and all that has gone on before you for granted. Many good and Godly people have gone before you and me to make all our weekly worship possible. Thank you, Lord, for all they have accomplished for your kingdom's work here on earth. If you are currently not in a church, come visit us or any one of the wonderful churches on the south side of Atlanta. The Rev. Dr. Knox Herndon is the pastor of His House Community Church (SBC) and a substitute school teacher in the Fayette County School System, and a former Army chaplain. The church is currently meeting in the American Legion Log Cabin across from the fountain on the Square in Fayetteville (but not for long). Prayer line 770-719-2365; e-mail Khern2365@aol.com.
