YAB accepting applications for 2000-01 term

Peachtree City's Youth Advisory Board is accepting applications for the 2000-01 school year.

Comprised of students from McIntosh and Starr's Mill high schools, the board serves as a voice for the youth of the city to address issues and concerns that are relevant in their lives. Rising students in grades 9-12 may apply.

Meetings are scheduled first Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Committee meetings will be conducted throughout the month.

There are openings for 13 voting member students to serve on the YAB. An additional five students will be selected to serve as alternates.

Students selected for voting positions must maintain an 80 percent attendance record. Students who cannot commit to attending but want to be involved in the YAB may choose to become committee members.

Deadline for new applicants is July 14 at 5 p.m. Renewal applications are due by June 2.

Interviews of new applicants will take place the week of Aug. 21. Renewing applicants' interviews will be June 5-16.

Applications are available at the Recreation Department's Administration Building off McIntosh Trail. Phone 770-631-2542.

The YAB is supported by the Commission on Children and Youth through funds allocated by the city. The students have opportunities to raise funds on their own throughout the year. Those funds have been used to help other area groups in need of small donations.
