Hollingsworth House ready for public

Refurbishing and renovations are now complete on the turn-of-the-century Hollingsworth House.

Fayetteville's Main Street organization conducted open house in the historic home during the two days of the Courthouse Art Show this past weekend.

Cochairmen Sam Burch and Lisa Hovey-King said that approximately 200 visitors passed through its portals.

“We were so excited,” said Hovey-King. “There were at least six or seven persons touring the house at any given time. We heard comments such as `beautiful, wonderful, I had no idea it was so huge' and the one heard the most was `a place like this was badly needed.'”

Several future brides were among those looking over the facilities, which are now available for rental. At the present time a call to City Hall, Shelli Reed at 770-461-6029, will get you the rental rates and a reservation time. Reed is with Main Street and sometime in the distant future this arm of the city of Fayetteville will occupy the top floor of the Hollingsworth House.

It is also currently seeking a house manager who will be handling all calls and reservations in the future.

The house was moved one third of a mile two years ago from a spot next to the Fayetteville First Baptist Church. The church donated the house to the city, which paid $70,000 to move it and approximately $200,000 to restore and refurbish it.
