Arbor Springs Elementary School teacher Kristin Skelly is Coweta's Teacher of the Year, 2000. Finalists included Patsy Burdeshaw from Jefferson Parkway and Darrel Ervin from East Coweta Middle.

Each finalist and Skelly spoke regarding the honor at the TOTY reception at the First Presbyterian Church in Newnan. Each school's TOTY was honored with a certificate, and the winner and two finalists were awarded cash prizes and silver trays. The reception and awards are sponsored by The Newnan Pilot Club, The Times-Herald, and Regions Bank.

Arbor Springs principal Mark Ballou introduced Skelly to the audience, referring to her many extra activities for the students at Arbor Springs and her dedication as a teacher. Skelly spoke briefly to the gathering, mentioning her devotion to the entire spectrum of students under her care with a special awareness of those less fortunate than others. When speaking of the Arbor Springs staff, Skelly became emotional as she honored them for honoring her with the responsibility of representing all the teachers of the system.

A nine-year veteran, this is Kristin Skelly's first year with Coweta County Schools. She will now enter competition for Georgia TOTY.
