County rejects 21st Century contract

To see the results of the vote, all you had to do was look at Scott Frederick's face.

As the 21st Century Coweta president looked at the floor with disbelief, the County Commission voted down the latest contract proposal between the two organizations Tuesday night.

Usually, the debate between the two groups involves a lengthy discussion, but Tuesday night the board voted down the contract without a peep.

Coweta County contributes nearly $115,000 to the group, which tries to bring industrial prospects to the county, and commissioners are adamant that 21st Century should disclose all contacts made with the prospects to Buddy Harrison, who manages the county's new industrial park.

In the past, commission Chairman Vernon “Mutt” Hunter has made it quite clear who runs the county.

“This county is being run from 22 East Broad St. by five elected officials,” said Hunter.

21st Century Coweta's board had sent a contract that would provide the county with a list of all contacts by potential purchasers of properties to Harrison on a weekly basis.

But the board would not comment on the new contract and Frederick left the meeting room immediately after the board voted down the latest proposal.
