Condon announces she won't run

Debbie Condon, Fayette County Board of Education chairman, announced during qualifying last week that she would not seek reelection for board Post 1.

Condon has served on the board since 1993 and was elected chairman in 1999 and again for 2000. She recently accepted the position of assistant dean of curriculum and instruction for Georgia Military College at the campus on Fort McPherson in Atlanta.

Condon said her responsibilities at the college would preempt her ability to maintain the flexibility that the school board requires. “It would be unfair for me to run again knowing that my duties as assistant dean may impair my ability to continue the level of involvement that I have dedicated to the position of chairman of the school board,” she said in a written announcement.
