Be
careful coming into Fayetteville from the south.
Speed limits have changed.
Prompted
by the state Department of Transportation, City
Council Monday approved reductions in the speed
limits on three city streets:
From 55 to 45 on
Ga. Highway 85 from the south city limits to a
point 300 feet south of Beauregard Boulevard;
From 55 to 45 on
Jimmy Mayfield Boulevard from Ga. Highway 92 to
South Jeff Davis Road;
From 40 to 35 on
Lee Street from Ga. Highway 85 to Jimmy Mayfield
Boulevard.
In
other action, council:
Approved Jimmy and
Dell Walker's request for a change in zoning from
R-30, a subdivision category, to O&I (office
and institutional) for a house at 555 Grady
avenue, across from Bradford Square office
complex.
The
city's planning staff recommended denial of the
request, saying it constituted spot zoning, but
council members said the property is unsuitable
for residential use, since it is directly across
the road from an office park.
Approved minor
changes in the city's erosion control ordinance
recommended by the state Environmental Protection
Division.
Awarded a contract
to replace the sidewalks on North Jeff Davis
Drive to K&p Concrete Services Inc., low
bidder at $22,870.49. The firm will replace just
over 2,500 feet of sidewalk.
Named Allsouth
Constructors as general contractor to build a new
dechlorination building for the city sewer
system, at a cost of $296,000. Council also hired
Crocker and Associates to put in a new filter bar
screen and screw compactor for $79,500, and
approved purchase of a variety of equipment for
the dechlorination building from Templeton and
Associates for $73,258.
