Keeping pace with the growth of the county means bigger facilities not only for municipalities, but for churches as well. Inman United Methodist Church is no exception and is about to complete a 10,000-sq. ft. expansion. The new facility houses Sunday School rooms as well as a fellowship hall that will accommodate 120 at a seated dinner. It is expected that the upper floor will be ready in time for the June Vacation Bible Schools. The Rev. Doug Burrell arrived last June to this congregation of 250 members and came to a church in the country that has been around since the mid 1800s. The community of Inman has been able to maintain its rural atmosphere, while producing three well-known ministers, the Rev. Dan Overstreet, the Rev. Dr. Don Harp and the Rev. Gary Parrish. Children's activities this summer will include a children's caravan in which a mission team from the University of Auburn, Wesley Foundation, will lead them in various morning activities July 21-22. In Vacation Bible School, the youth will participate in activities geared to help the Habitat for Humanities organization by making various crafts for the homes built by the organization. They also will be part of a youth caravan July 7-8, at which time the Auburn/Wesley Foundation students will be on hand. May 20, the graduating students will present a concert in conjunction with the church's Saturday Night Live supper, which is conducted each fourth Saturday. In July, the adults will be called upon to bring their garden and lawn tools, and assist in landscaping around the new education building. In August, the adults will conduct revival services on Sunday nights and the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews, Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, will be on hand for one of the services. Local attorney and native Scott Ballard will lead a support group for those recently divorced, Wednesday evenings at 6:30. And in keeping with its rural persona, the church will deliver different kinds of newcomer gifts in its outreach ministry, an assortment of jams and jellies. The church office can be reached at 770-461-2123.
