The Peachtree City Library will host a special springtime slide presentation of John Twachtman's impressionism paintings Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in the Floy Farr Room. The paintings, currently on view at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, are colorful works that feature flowers, snow scenes and nature at its most beautiful, according to a written statement issued by the library. Twachtman, who died in 1902, has been called one of the most significant American impressionists and has been compared to Monet. The High Museum exhibit features more than 50 paintings and pastels from various phases of the artist's career and gives an intimate look at this innovative artist, the library said. Twachtman's house and garden and the distinctive features of his property a brook, a pool, a bridge and a cascade provide subject matter for many of his paintings, according to the library. Rosemary Walden, a docent volunteer and art educator at the High, will speak on American impressionism and the art of Twachtman. Walden is a dynamic art teacher and promoter of the arts, the library said. Her knowledge and enthusiasm keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The public is invited. The program is free.
