Kuhns receives state certification

The Peachtree City Library has announced that the Georgia Board for the Certification of Librarians has approved library technology/training manager Jill Kuhns as a grade 5-B certified librarian.

Grade 5-B indicates that the applicant holds a master's degree in the field of librarianship from a library school whose program is accredited by the American Library Association.

Kuhns received her bachelor's in English from the University of Nebraska in 1993 and her master's in library services from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1998. She came to the Peachtree City Library in November of 1998 from Brodart Company in Williamsport, Pa., where she was the training supervisor for the company's renowned customized cataloging department, Compleat Book-Serv.

While at Brodart, Kuhns supervised a group of 26 catalogers who worked on databases from large public library systems including Chicago, San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles public libraries.

Since coming on board at the Peachtree City Library, Kuhns authored the first-ever Library Master/Technology Plan, which was presented at the annual City Council retreat at the Aberdeen Woods Conference Center Saturday, April 8.

Last year a sampling of Kuhns' work was published for the first time in the June issue of Library Journal, where she provided commentary for the “How Do You Manage?” column. She also was one of four staff members who represented the Peachtree City Library at the Georgia Library Association's Annual Conference last year in Jekyll Island, where she presented her paper, “Catching the Wave: Staff Training for Y2K and Beyond.”

Currently Kuhns is serving on GLA's Governmental Relations Committee.
