Peachtree City is hosting several events this week in recognition of City Government Week, which ends tomorrow. Classes from area schools have spent much of this week visiting City Hall, the Police Department and the library to learn more about how their government operates. An open house is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall. Each city department will have information on services, and the Public Works, Police and Fire departments will display equipment, including the new Freddie the Fire Truck robot. Art contest entries also will be displayed, and the contest participants will be recognized. The city's annual spring cleanup is this Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30, in conjunction with the Great American Cleanup. The city will place dumpsters at the Recycling Center at Ga. Highway 74 and Rockaway Road, which will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days. Once all dumpsters are full, no more dumping will be allowed. Please do not deposit household garbage, tires, or batteries in the dumpsters. Appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines will be accepted this year, but only this weekend. Adopt-a-Mile, Adopt-a-Path, and Adopt-a-Park volunteers also are encouraged to participate in the cleanup by picking up litter this Saturday. If you are interested in participating, phone 770-487-5183 about Adopt-a-Mile or Adopt-a-Path, or 770-631-2542 about Adopt-a-Park.
