The Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists has awarded accreditation to the Fayette Community Hospital Clinical Laboratory for excellence of the services being provided. Based on the results of a recent on-site inspection, the hospital's clinical laboratory is now one of the more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide. We are very pleased to have met the high performance standards required for the accreditation, said Bruce Walker, M.D., laboratory director. This accreditation is a testament of the high-quality healthcare we offer to our community." The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, started in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program. Inspectors examine the records and quality control of a laboratory for the preceding two years, as well as the education and qualifications of the total staff, the adequacy of the facilities, the equipment, laboratory safety and laboratory management to determine how well the laboratory is serving the patient. The College of American Pathologists is a medical society serving nearly 16,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world. The organization is the world's largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and is widely considered the leader in laboratory quality assurance. The CAP is an advocate for high-quality and cost-effective medical care. Fayette Community Hospital, a not-for-profit subsidiary of Piedmont Medical Center and member of PROMINA Health System, is on Ga. Highway 54 in Fayetteville. Services of the 100-bed community hospital include 24-hour emergency department, medical/surgical, critical care, diagnostics, including laboratory, radiology and mammography, respiratory, physical therapy and rehabilitation, outpatient surgery and comprehensive outpatient services.
