Injury prevention classes offered

The Peachtree City Recreation Department is offering two new injury prevention classes, BackSafe and SittingSafe, to help residents reduce the stress of daily activities and protect their bodies from injury at work and at home. The two hour workshops will involve activity stations, stretching exerceises and instructional videos.

The SittingSafe class focuses on how to offset the stress of prolonged sitting and how to set up a computer workstation so that it is ergonomically correct. The BackSafe class teaches the proper biomechanics to use when bending, lifting, carrying or performing other routine activities at work or at home. Both classes will address the causes of carpal tunnel, back pain and other pains associated with repetitive activities, and will include stretching exercises to prevent and relieve the effects of cumulative trauma on your back, neck, shoulders, legs, wrists and hands.

The SittingSafe class will be offered on May 11 and the BackSafe class will be held on June 22. Both classes will be conducted at the Kedron Field House from 6:30-8:30 p.m. To register call or visit the Kedron Field House at 770-631-2525.

The classes will be taught by Dr. Edward Finucan, a Peachtree City resident who has been licensed as a BackSafe and SittingSafe Injury Prevention Consultant. For more information, call Dr. Finucan at 770-632-1995.
