WalkAmerica supports March of Dimes programs of research, community service, education and advocacy that give every baby the best chance for a healthy start. WalkAmerica's national honorary chairman this year is Kathy Ireland, who is walking with the Kmart national team. Ireland is a wife, mother, fashion and lifestyle designer, health and wellness advocate, instructor of five best-selling videos and a Sunday School teacher. Her engaging personality and tireless efforts have been helpful as she has traveled the country, encouraging people to walk for the March of Dimes this year. Five thousand people are expected to complete the 5.2-mile walk this year, raising approximately $550,000. There will be a picnic, with music, games and entertainment for the participants after the walk is complete. The walk will begin at Centennial Park in Atlanta on Saturday, April 29. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the walk will begin at 10 a.m. and the celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m. For information, phone Kellyann Dunning, assistant WalkAmerica director, 404-350-9800.
