Many of us have been watching the tragic human saga of a Cuban father and his son unfold on the evening news. It appears that here you have two families both wanting what is seemingly best for the young child who is obviously being torn between families and even countries. Maybe I am becoming skeptical in my old age, but some very glaring questions arise in my mind that I haven't seen answered in the media, or that haven't even been asked. When someone says to me how much they LOVE me, I immediately think, OK, SHOW me! I am reminded of the three times Jesus in the scriptures asked Peter do you love me? And three times Peter answered Yes Lord, you know I love you. Three times our Lord said to Peter Feed my sheep. Another time Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. In other words, to put it bluntly, put your actions where your mouth is. I am reminded of the classic Fiddler on the Roof stage play and movie when the husband asks the wife, Do you love me? She responds in song with I wash your clothes, I cook your meals... if that's not love, what is? In this Cuban situation I feel we don't ever have all the facts in the media and never will. I feel there are still some very basic questions that are unanswered. The main question that really glares in my mind about this Cuban family is where was this loving father when his wife and small child desired freedom so much as to risk their very lives on a leaky boat to Miami? Obviously the loving mother wanted her son to grow up in America if they could just make it across the ocean to Miami. Then what really stinks in my mind is now the biological father shows up with the full support of one of the world's most infamous equal opportunity oppressor-dictators, Fidel Castro. Then you have Americans who don't have a clue about how Casto's regime has done more to separate Cuban families than any in modern history. Now on TV, we are to believe that Castro and this Cuban father are partners in restoring this family? When Castro dies and the books are open for the world to see, it will be clear that whomever Castro supports in any situation you can be sure that it will have the following ideas permeating whatever he does: 1) Whatever happens will be in the total best interest of Castro and his failed regime; 2) His proven human rights abuse record is always in the best interest of his failed communist regime; 3) He will stop at nothing to prop up his failed regime; 4) Whatever he does it is always to embarrass the American government. I was taught by a loving Christian mother and father that: 1) You never shake hands with the devil and get a good deal; 2) You never do right by doing wrong; 3) You never do wrong by doing right. Love me less and treat me better. AMEN! The Rev.
