Kevin Demmit, Ph.D, a Peachtree City resident and associate professor at Clayton College & State University, has announced his candidacy for Fayette County Board of Education Post 2 in the Republican primary.

He and his wife, Audrey, have lived in the community for six years and have three children attending Fayette County schools.

Demmitt has a bachelor's degree in ministry from Oregon Bible College and a master's degree in sociology from Arizona State University. He was awarded a doctorate in sociology from Purdue University.

Demmitt was a pastor in Arizona and Indiana before becoming a college professor 10 years ago. Prior to Clayton State, where he teaches sociology, criminal justice and teacher education, Demmitt taught at Taylor University, a Christian college in Indiana, and at Southern Illinois University.

Demmitt said he believes in parental involvement in making decisions, long-range planning and open communication between the board and community. He also favors collaboration between the school system and private and public institutions, he said.
