Help on the way for City Hall fountain

Repairs to the fountain in front of City Hall in Peachtree City are forthcoming.

The fountain has deteriorated for a number of reasons, according to city staff reports, with improperly installed tile, chipped paint and exposed wiring and lights listed as the primary problems. In addition to the aesthetic concerns, the tile and electrical work are safety issues which require quick attention, staff reported.

The low bid received for this work was $40,199.14 by Aquatic Fountain and Installation, a company that has worked on the fountain since 1993. Upon discussions with company owner Jim Ford, city staff learned that the same company could handle repairs on the metal dipping sculptures, which also have been working improperly.

Ford supplied a price quote of $24,240 for the sculpture repair, along with $3,000 for an annual maintenance contract on the fountain. All of these expenses have been approved by the City Council.

With $22,399 already in the city's budget for fountain repair work, the council funded the remaining $45,040.14 needed to complete the contracts from the city's self-insurance fund.
