Newnan High School artist Janin Wimer won the3rd Congressional District art show and will travel to Washington to see her artwork hung in the Capitol for an entire year, Rep. Mac Collins announced Thursday. She won a $100 prize, a blue ribbon, and a trip for two to Washington D.C. Her art teacher, Jodie Hobbs, also won a trip to Washington. Her painting, Tools of the Trade, was selected by the judges out of artwork submitted from all over the 3rd District. Other winning students included second place Christine Schneider, of Jonesboro High School. Her art teacher is Robert Putnam. She won $75 and a certificate. Tory Blount, of Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone won third place, and a $50 prize. Blount's teacher is Dorrie Fletcher. Megan Stauss of Starr's Mill High School in Fayetteville won fourth place and a $25 prize. Her teacher is T.A. Little. Quinton Nick, of Jordan High School in Columbus, placed 5th and won a $25 prize. His teacher is Shary Williams. The People's Choice winner was Christy Dunlap, of Pacelli High School in Columbus. She won a $50 prize. Her teacher is Yuriy Totskiy. Katie Martin, of Brookstone School in Columbus, won the student's choice award. She won a $50 prize. Her teacher is Robert Dozier. The best school display was won by Harris County High School. Amy Patterson is the art teacher at Harris County High School. Rep. Mac Collins and the Columbus Artists' Guild hosted the awards reception Sunday, at the W.C. Bradley Co. Museum and the Columbus Technical Institute Foundation in Columbus, Ga. The art competition is an annual event in which each high school art teacher in the 3rd District is invited to submit five students' entries for competition. The winning work is chosen by a jury of experts. The winner's artwork is then displayed in the United States Capitol for one year.
