The Central Educational Center's Board of Directors met for the first time Tuesday. Newly named CEO Mark Whitlock was recognized at the regular Coweta County Board of Education meeting at Fairmount Alternative School. Whitlock introduced the CEC board members, and they then dismissed to conduct their first meeting. The Central Educational Center is a charter school, and under charter school law in Georgia, a majority of the board of directors must be parents of the students enrolled. The school's faculty and administration also must be represented on the board. In addition, because the CEC will focus on business and industry related education, local business officials also serve on the board. CEC directors are as follows: representing large business, William J. Wetmore from the William L. Bonnell Co., three-year term; representing small business, Matthew G. Griffies, DMD, three-year term; Chamber board representative Melvin Samuels from the Ga. Department of Labor, two-year term; business-at-large representative, Steve Stripling from Bank of Coweta, three-year term. Board members representing the CEC faculty and administration are teachers Lynne Dodds, three-year term, and Mike McMahon, two-year term. Other educators are Dr. Judy Robinson, Coweta County Schools, two-year term, and Kelly Loftin, Carroll Technical College, two-year term. Parents serving on the CEC board are Bob Beck, two-year term; Paula Cochran, two-year term, and Constance Combs, three-year term, all representing East Coweta High. Representing Newnan High School are Willie Tucker, three-year term; Wally Batchelor, two-year term; and Lisa Little, three-year term. Representing Northgate High School are Wanda Clark, three-year term; Sandra Calhoun, two-year term; and Lewis Ward, three-year term. All subsequent members will serve for two-year terms. The board's first order of business was to elect officers. CEC board officers are Dr. Judy Robinson, interim board chairman; Wanda Clark, vice Chairman; Lisa Little, recording secretary; and Matthew Griffies, parliamentarian. Officer elections will be conducted annually.
