April gardening classes underway

Fayette County Extension Service has announced the gardening classes in its popular series, The Fayette County Institute of Gardening Knowledge.

This series of five classes, which started April 10, gives homeowners easy tips and strategies to help manage and design their home landscapes.

Remaining topics for this series are:

April 12 — turfgrass management; April 13 — hummingbirds and butterflies; April 14 — gardening inside.

Classes will be at the Fayette County Extension classroom at 7 each evening. Registration of $5 covers the weeklong series. You can join in for the rest of the week, but the cost will be the same as for the whole week.

The Extension Service also will host an “Environmental Morning” April 29 at the extension office from 10 a.m. to noon, as a celebration of Earth Day.

Speakers will be Dennis Chase from the Southern Conservation Trust, David Cree on attracting and identifying resident and migratory birds, and Jean Wall Davis will tell which native plants are suitable for your backyard.

Phone the Extension Service to register for the Fayette County Institute of Gardening Knowledge series or the Environmental Morning celebration, 770-460-5730, ext. 5412.
