Fayetteville's City Council has delayed until May any action on the proposed reversal of an earlier rezoning decision concerning the Landrum property on Ga. Highway 54 east. The property was rezoned from a residential category to office-institutional, but city officials say the owners have not complied with provisions of the new zoning. City citations against owners of the property for alleged violations of zoning laws were scheduled to be heard late last month, but the case was continued until April 27. Councilman Walt White voted against tabling the reversal. He wants to go ahead and do it. Former Fayetteville mayor Mike Wheat will continue to serve on the Fayette County Development Authority. He served on the authority as mayor and recently volunteered to continue serving if that was what the City Council wanted. Council voted unanimously to keep Wheat on the authority. The state Board of Education will have a public hearing for residents of the 3rd congressional District, which includes Fayette County, Wednesday in Columbus, Ga. Its purpose is to receive comments regarding the performance and problems of public education within the district. Those wishing to speak should sign in upon arrival. The hearing will be 7 - 8 p.m. at the Hardaway High School auditorium, 2901 College Drive, Columbus. J.T. Williams Jr., the board's 3rd District representative, will conduct the hearing.
