Fayetteville City Council members seem ready to vote on The Village Monday, possibly setting the tone for the future of life and commerce on the Courthouse Square. The proposed 110-acre mixed-use development at Ga. Highway 54 and Tiger Trail, is hailed by many at City Hall as a key element in the city's future vitality. Planned are 203 upscale homes, plus class A office space, a neighborhood shopping center, a 150-room hotel/conference center and a series of parks. But the plan also could bring problems in terms of new traffic for Ga. highways 85 and 54, and the city Planning Commission has recommended denial of a rezoning request for the project for that reason. Development firm Argonne Properties is asking for PCD (planned community development), a proposed new zoning category designed for master-planned, mixed-use developments. City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall. Public comment will be accepted. National Tire and Battery company has received approval of its development plan for a store on Ga. Highway 85 in front of the new Fayetteville Lowe's, but there is still work to be done to make the project fit the space. Fayetteville's Planning Commission approved the development plan, and agreed to count the tire and auto repair shop's work bays as parking space to help meet the city's requirements. Company engineers will have to work with city staff to develop an acceptable use of creative paving methods to meet the city's requirement that 40 percent of the land be pervious to water. A 7,770-sq. ft. store is planned with seven work bays.
