Former state Rep. Dick Lane, who retired from the House in 1994 after serving the 55th District for 28 years, has been honored by the General Assembly with a resolution commending him for his many years of dedicated public service and his many outstanding accomplishments. A native of East Point, Lane has moved to Coweta County and has family members living in Fayette. According to House Resolution 902, passed in the just-finished legislative session, Throughout his nearly three decades of outstanding service in the House of Representatives, more than 160 bills and 14 constitutional amendments authored by this gentleman of the 55th District became laws of this state. At the time of his retirement, Lane was the longest serving member of the House. The resolution also mentions Lane's work as recreation director of the city of East Point, in which he received commendations from President John F. Kennedy and Govs. Lester Maddox and Carl Sanders for outstanding performance in recreation. Along with several civic and religious ties, Lane also is commended for his work as chairman of the House Committee on State Planning and Community Affairs and as a member of the committees on Rules and Appropriations and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Overview.
