Home Depot is asking the Fayetteville Planning Commission to approve plans for an addition so the store can store larger items in its new tool rental service. The request will be among a dozen items on the commission's agenda during its regular business meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall. During a recent work session to discuss Tuesday's agenda, commission member Allan Feldman said he is opposed to any expansion at Home Depot because the company is in violation of city laws concerning outside storage. I will be totally against this entire concept until such time as Home Depot will provide a guarantee of some sort to [clean up] the outside storage, said Feldman. A spokesman for the company declined to comment specifically on Feldman's complaints, but said store representatives have walked the property with city inspectors and have complied with the city's regulations. Fire Chief Alan Jones said it's true the store has been cited in the past, but he said store officials have corrected those problems. The company wants to build a small addition at the rear of its Fayette Pavilion store for storage of rental items. The additional outside storage bin, which would have no roof, is needed for large items like ladders, said Arthur Gibert of Home Depot's architecture firm, Greenberg Farrow. A new tire and auto repair shop is slated for an out-parcel in front of the new Lowe's home improvement store on Ga. Highway 85 north. Fayetteville's Planning Commission will rule on the National Tire and Battery development plans Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
