News Briefs The city of Fayetteville's
computer system has grown so large and complex
that a full time person is needed to maintain it,
says acting city manager Johnny Roberts.
City
Council Monday will vote on Roberts'
recommendation that a full time systems
administrator be hired, taking those duties
off the backs of finance director Lynn Raven and
police Capt. Steve Ledbetter, freeing them for
their other duties.
Cost
of the additional person for the remainder of the
city's 2000 budget will be $19,048, Roberts said,
adding that the full salary and benefits will
have to be factored into next year's budget.
Roberts
also recommended changing the rank of captain in
the Police Department to that of major, mirroring
he practice in most area police departments.
He
also is asking council to promote a worker in the
Water Department to senior crew leader. The
person involved is already doing the work, and
the pay and title should reflect that, he said.
Council
meets at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall. All council
meetings are open to the public.
Fayetteville's
revenues and expenditures are about where they
should be at midyear, finance director Lynn Raven
told City Council Monday.
In
her annual midyear
budget report, Raven said the city has
collected about $3.7 million of its anticipated
$6.86 million in general fund revenues for fiscal
year 200, which runs from Aug. 1, 1999 to July
31, 2000.
Expenditures
also are at about 50 percent of the budget as of
Jan. 31, the midyear point, she said, except that
the city's capital projects have used only
$67,477 of the $158,630 budgeted. Several
projects will get underway soon, said Raven, and
that discrepancy will even out.
