If you want to attend a church with a lot going on throughout the year, check out McDonough Road Baptist.

It is a church with two lives, one that began in 1919 in College Park, and another that began when it relocated to Fayetteville in 1994.

The current membership of 1,100 has the option of participating in literally dozens of activities, depending upon age.

Margaret Rogers is director of children's ministries and said that Vacation Bible School will begin June 12. This year's theme is “Diving Into God's Faithfulness,” and the event is open to the community

Those wishing to participate in summer activities can sign up for a trip to the Chattanooga Aquarium, Six Flags, bowling, etc. They can join the Bible Drill Team and participate in its visit to the Georgia Baptist Convention Building July 17 and perform for its staff.

In August the drill team will travel to Gatlinburg for a fun time.

The ministry of students is headed by Paul Allen. He said area churches will gather at New Hope Baptist Church May 5 and 6 for the “Dare To Share Youth Evangelism Training” seminar. There will be drama training as well as community visitation.

College students May 19 and 20 will experience a retreat to Tennessee, where they will work with other churches. In July seventh graders through college age students will attend a retreat in Ormond Beach, Fla. Throughout the year this group meets in the church or in homes for a fellowship time.

Each Wednesday night, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the group Soul To Soul meets for Bible study and worship, conducted year `round.

The minister of education, David Smith, has scheduled a number of activities for adults. One of the most unusual is a fishing seminar Thursday, May 4. It will begin with a fish fry at 6 p.m., and while there is no charge, please call for a reservation.

The seminar will be conducted by Glenn Chappaler, a professional fisherman, who follows the two main fishing tournaments. He will combine teaching fishing techniques and telling of his faith as a Christian.

Throughout the year classes are offered for adults Wednesday and Sunday evenings using both videos and work books as teaching tools.

The church will have its “McDonough Road 500,” a seminar that will involve the entire membership. An expert will be on hand to help members see new ways to evangelize and help the church grow. It will take place May 7 - 10, and on the 10th the congregation will be presented a plan for the church based on suggestions by its members.

Various church leaders will attend a leadership training seminar in Toccoa Aug. 4 and 5.

Not to be left out, the minister of music, David Brown, has scheduled special Easter musical programs that will extend over several days. Participating will be the youth choir, an adult ensemble, and Saturday and Sunday the adult choir and the church orchestra will perform. The drama ensemble will present a drama based on the Lord's Supper on Maundy Thursday.

The youth choir and the drama members will take a mission trip to Montana June 21 - 30, providing Vacation Bible School to a small church, setting up a backyard Bible club at a new church site, and helping in construction and performing. “We have,” he said “a full music program.”

The senior adults have adopted the name “McFolks.” They enjoy traveling here and thereand will bus to south Georgia April 14 and 15, visiting a telephone museum, taking in a play, “Swamp Gravy,” enjoying the Andersonville National Park and touring the new POW Museum.

Concluded the pastor, the Rev. Dr. David L. Chancy, “This is a loving church family that is looking forward to embracing those wishing to join our family.”

The church is at 352 McDonough Road, Fayetteville. It can be reached at 770-460-5423.
