Flat Creek Baptist Church is unique in that it is one of six churches in Fayette County that dates back to the 1820s.

Not ones to sit back on their laurels, the 1,800 members of the congregation expand their mission fields each year. This year about 20 or so will be heading to Russia in May. They expect to be there about 12 days, handing out tracts, sharing literature and working in an orphanage.

Closer to home, nearly 50 members will be traveling to Gray Court, S.C., (near Greenville), to help build a church in June. They will also be holding “back yard Bible Clubs” and expect to be there six days. The group call themselves “The Kingdom Builders,” because that's what they do.

There is a couple from south Fulton County that are now missionaries in Guatemala and a couple in the church looks after the missionaries' needs.

In Fayette County, the church supports the Fayette Samaritans and the inmates at the Fayette County Jail are visited regularly by members offering moral and religious support.

Pastor the Rev. William O. Priester said he is excited about the church's first “Fall Tent Crusade.” A tent big enough to hold 1,000 people will be erected in October and for four nights there will be sports personalities, special music and, of course, awesome preaching. This event will be open to the community.

Various activities available to children and youth throughout the remainder of this year include a rafting retreat, summer camps, map and compass training, progressive dinners, skating, vacation Bible School, a mission project to Charleston, S.C., and pajama parties just to mention a few events.

The church is at 161 Flat Creek Trail, Fayetteville, and can be reached at 770-487-4890.
