Fayette County's election results Tuesday mirrored those of the rest of Georgia and the nation, as Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore coasted to victory Presidential preference primaries.

A total of 17,675 Fayette County voters went to the polls Tuesday for the Presidential preference primary, more than 85 of them voting on the Republican ticket.

Bush picked up 9,893 of those GOP votes in Fayette, followed by Arizona Sen. John McCain (4,278), Alan Keyes (809), Steve Forbes (38), Gary Bauer (19) and Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch (6).

Among Democrats, Gore picked up 2,098 votes to Bradley's 534.

There were no state or local issues on Tuesday's ballot.

The next time Fayette voters come out will be for July's primary elections, with state legislature seats as well as Fayette County posts on the line. The general election is in November.
