After years of negotiations and discussions, the city of Senoia is getting ready to be the proud owner of a wastewater treatment plant. City officials confirmed this week that next Tuesday is the closing day for the purchase of the Southern Mills Inc. wastewater treatment plant on Andrews Parkway for $750,000. The purchase of the treatment plant allows the city to continue with its plan of having a municipal sewerage system. The city has already started digging lines to provide sewerage for the town's low-income residents in the first phase of the project. The city will then focus on providing sewerage to the town's subdivisions and the businesses on Main Street. The final piece in the puzzle occurred last week when Winpak Films agreed to swap small parcels of property with the city to clear up property lines for the wastewater plant. Early this year, the town discovered that Winpak had an easement on its property which allowed the treatment plant's force main to run through it. After negotiations, Winpak agreed to pay up to $25,000 to move the force main, and the city and Winpak swapped small parcels of property to clear the property lines. The city is also allowing Winpak to use a seven-tenths of an acre parcel on the city's property with the provision that no habitable structures are built on the property and it doesn't interfere with any city buffers.
