About
eight million people will have the chance to hear
Peachtree City Elementary School's chorus perform
tomorrow on PBS television as part of the 16th
annual World's Largest Concert, to be broadcast
at 1 p.m.
The
group was selected to be part of the nationwide
ensemble based on a performance tape submitted by
choral director Carolyn Groover. Peachtree City
Elementary is one of 22 schools from across the
nation performing, and the only school from
Georgia included in the afternoon event.
The
concept of the world's largest concert was
created by The National Association for Music
Education, to focus attention on music in the
nation's schools. This year's event corresponds
with NAMC's annual conference in Washington, D.C.
Secretary of Education Richard Riley will lead a
special general session during which music
teachers, music educators and guests will
participate in the WLC from the nation's capital.
Peachtree
City Elementary will be featured in the
Let's Make Music America segment of
the performance. The open chorus features 47
fourth- and fifth-grade students under the
direction of Groover and accompanied by Lynn
Craig. Their 1999-2000 performances include the
Festival of Trees at the Georgia World Congress
Center, winter concerts at schools and area
nursing homes and a six specially selected fifth
graders who participated in the Georgia Statewide
Elementary Honors Chorus and Sing Along
with the Legislators.
